Next comes visas. Depending on your itinerary, some destinations may require travel authorization even for a short stop. Cruise travelers often assume the ship handles everything, but it’s still your responsibility to verify entry requirements before departure.

Travel insurance has also become more important than ever. Delays, medical emergencies, lost luggage, and unexpected cancellations can happen anywhere in the world. Having coverage—and proof of it—can save both money and stress.

I also recommend keeping both printed and digital copies of your cruise itinerary, boarding passes, vaccination records, and emergency contacts. Phones fail. Internet connections disappear. Simple backups can make a huge difference when traveling internationally.

One of my personal habits is scanning every important document and emailing copies to myself and a trusted family member. I even keep printed copies separate from the originals in my luggage. Thankfully, I’ve rarely needed them—but the few times I did, they were absolute lifesavers.
