Why Not Now: Racing Supercars Through the Rockies With My Son

Some trips are about relaxing. This one was about redlining.
I decided years ago that I would ensure my children (and grandchildren) enjoy more memorable experinces than just more "stuff". We all "stuff" that means very little to us as time goes by. But, Experiences....that's a whole different mindset!
A few years back, my son and I loaded up for a DreamTrips getaway to Denver, Colorado — and if you've been following my "Why Not Now" posts, you already know I don't believe in waiting around for "someday" to do the things that light you up. This trip was proof of that philosophy in action.
Strapped Into a Ferrari, Grinning Like a Kid
The centerpiece of the trip was an afternoon at Oxotic Supercar Driving Experience just outside Golden, Colorado — Denver's playground for anyone who's ever dreamed of getting behind the wheel of a car they'd otherwise only see on a poster. We're talking Ferraris, a Nissan GT-R, and a three-wheeled rocket-on-wheels that turned heads in every parking lot we pulled into.
The drive itself winds through Golden Gate Canyon, hugging the mountainside with a lake on one side and pine-covered slopes on the other. There's a moment — right as you drop the hammer coming out of a switchback — where the engine note bounces off the canyon walls and every bit of "adult responsibility" in your brain just goes quiet. It's just you, the road, and a machine that costs more than most houses.
Watching my son slide behind the wheel of his own supercar, peace-sign out the window and grinning ear to ear, was worth the trip on its own. Some memories you plan for. Others just happen because you said yes to the opportunity in front of you. This was the second kind wearing the disguise of the first.
Ballpark, Blue Skies, and a Rockies Win (of Sorts)
We swapped horsepower for hot dogs the next day at Coors Field to catch the Colorado Rockies play under that famous big Denver sky. There's something about a ballgame in a new city — different crowd, different energy, same universal language of baseball. We grabbed seats out in the sun, soaked it in, and just talked. No agenda, no itinerary to rush to. Just a father and son enjoying a day that wouldn't have happened if we hadn't decided to book the trip in the first place.
The Real Point of the Trip
Here's the thing about experiences like this one: they don't require a lottery win or an early retirement. They require showing up, saying yes, and building trips around the moments that actually matter to you — not just the ones that look good on a postcard.
That's exactly the kind of travel I've built my "Why Not Now" life around, and it's exactly what DreamTrips membership is designed to make easy. Between weaving Ferraris through the Rockies and standing-room seats at Coors Field, this was a reminder that adventure doesn't have to wait for a bigger budget or a clearer calendar. It just has to start.
If a trip like this — where you and the people you love get to chase down a genuine "wow" moment together — sounds like something you want more of in your life, I'd love to show you how DreamTrips makes it possible. [Reach out or check out the details here .]
More photos from the trip are up on Facebook — go take a look, and let me know which car you'd have picked.
